Looking after your pet in Fuengirola
Fuengirola promotes itself as pet-friendly, and the facilities back that up: the dog beach by Sohail Castle on C/ Tartesios covers about 3,000 m² with showers, a fountain and a paw wash, and seven dog areas are spread across the neighbourhoods. Canine leishmaniosis, spread by sand flies, is common here, so use repellents, ask about vaccination and test yearly.
The town hall hands out bottles so owners can dilute dog urine on the street with water, a campaign moving neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Dogs may ride buses and commuter trains if the rules are followed, and the C1 line reaches the airport in about 34 minutes. Microchipping within three months of birth is compulsory, with registration on the RAIA. Petplan pet insurance in Fuengirola lets you see any vet practice, in the town centre, Los Boliches or Torreblanca: pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
