Looking after your pet in Cádiz
Many town beaches on this Atlantic coastline restrict pets, so check local rules first. There are alternatives: the Camposoto dog zone in San Fernando has a 1,125 m² fenced off-lead area, and Playa de Lavaculos sits by the Sancti Petri breakwater in Chiclana de la Frontera. Heartworm, carried by mosquitoes, is more common here than in most of Spain, and leishmaniosis is widespread too, so ask your vet about prevention and yearly tests.
In Cádiz city itself, beach regulations ban pets from the municipality's beaches. Dogs and cats need a microchip within three months of birth, recorded on Andalusia's RAIA register, and the Ilustre Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Cádiz is based on Avenida Ana de Viya. With Petplan pet insurance in Cádiz you can see any vet, from Jerez de la Frontera to Algeciras or San Fernando, pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
