Looking after your pet in Almería
Almería mixes a Mediterranean coastline with farming towns in the west, and the heat means dog walks work best early in the morning or later in the evening. In the city, Playa de El Bobar has a dog area of about 950 m with a pet shower and drinking fountain, while Playa de La Rana in Adra offers a fenced stretch. Keep away from pine woods with processions of pine processionary caterpillars: their stinging hairs can badly hurt a dog's mouth and tongue.
Dogs and cats must be microchipped within three months of birth and recorded on the RAIA, Andalusia's animal identification register. The Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Almería runs a vet finder. With Petplan pet insurance in Almería you can use any vet practice, whether in the city, Roquetas de Mar or El Ejido: pay the bill and claim back 100% of covered costs, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
