Looking after your pet in Calvià
Calvià covers south-west Mallorca, between the Na Burguesa hills and a coastline of coves, and is one of the few municipalities on the island with regulated dog bathing areas. At Punta Marroig in Palmanova your dog can be off the lead inside the zone from 8am to 8pm, and the same hours apply at Cala des Gats on the Costa de la Calma. Watch out for leishmaniosis, common in the Balearics: use repellents, ask about vaccination and test yearly.
Balearic dogs must be identified within three months of birth and registered on RIACIB, which the Balearic Veterinary College (COVIB) runs under an agreement with the regional government. If you are looking for pet insurance in Calvià, Petplan lets you use any vet practice in Santa Ponça, Palmanova or Peguera: pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
