If you go into hospital, your policy pays for your pet’s boarding

A hospital admission is never planned, and if you live alone with your dog or cat the first question is not a medical one: who looks after them? Your Petplan policy covers this situation and reimburses your pet’s stay in a boarding kennel up to a maximum of €600.

What this cover includes

The policy reimburses the cost of your pet’s stay in an animal boarding facility when you have to be hospitalised, up to a maximum of €600. It is not a discount or an approved centre: you choose the kennel and Petplan pays you back what you spent.

It is a separate benefit from the reimbursement of veterinary expenses. Your dog or cat does not have to be ill to use it, because the reason for the stay is your hospitalisation, not theirs.

When you can use it

The condition is your hospital admission. While you are an inpatient, your pet needs somewhere to stay and someone to care for them, and that cost falls within the cover up to the €600 limit.

It does not replace the people around you: if a relative can take your pet in, you do not need to use it. It exists precisely for when that alternative is not there.

What is not included

The benefit covers the stay, not treatment. If your pet needs to see a vet for an illness or an accident during those days, that goes through the normal route: 100% of the invoice reimbursed, up to €3,100 a year.

It also does not cover what the policy excludes in general, such as routine or preventive visits, deworming, and neutering or sterilisation.

How to claim it

It works like the rest of the policy: you pay and Petplan reimburses you. Keep the invoice from the boarding kennel and send it to us; payment is made by bank transfer to your account.

Keep the paperwork from your hospital admission together with that invoice, so you have everything ready when you submit the expenses.

What else the same policy gives you

This benefit sits alongside the other compensations: up to €600 for theft with violence, up to €600 for death by accident or by illness, up to €600 a year in advertising costs if your dog goes missing, and up to €200 towards euthanasia and disposal of remains.

And alongside the veterinary telephone assistance, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for emergencies when you cannot reach your usual vet.

Frequently asked questions

Up to a maximum of €600.

Can I choose the kennel?

Yes. With Petplan you freely choose the centre, and your vet too, with no approved network.

What if my pet falls ill during the stay?

It is handled like any other veterinary expense: 100% of the invoice reimbursed, up to €3,100 a year, with a €45 co-payment (excess) per illness and not per visit.
