Looking after your pet in Adeje

At the foot of the Barranco del Infierno ravine, Adeje links its old town with the resort area of Costa Adeje in south-west Tenerife. If your dog loves the sea, the nearest dog area is in neighbouring Arona: El Callao, a pebbly stretch at the end of the Palm-Mar promenade with bins and free parking, though no showers. Heartworm is the main health threat, as mosquitoes spread it more here than in most of Spain; monthly prevention and a yearly antigen test are recommended.

By law, dogs must be identified and registered on ZOOCAN, the Canary Islands animal register, within three months of birth or one month of acquisition. As pet insurance in Adeje, Petplan lets you choose any vet practice in Costa Adeje, the old town or Callao Salvaje: pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
