Looking after your pet in Tenerife
Looking for a beach with your dog in Tenerife? Head south and east. El Puertito in Güímar has about 200 m of calm water by the marina, and El Confital at El Médano offers around 170 m beside Montaña Roja. Along that coast the wind takes the edge off the heat but can also whip up waves. Heartworm, spread by mosquitoes, is the main thing to prevent, as it is more common here than in most of Spain.
Your dog must be on ZOOCAN within three months of birth, or within a month if you acquire it. The Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the provincial veterinary college. Fred. Olsen inter-island ferries take pets with a pre-booked ticket. With pet insurance in Tenerife from Petplan, you can choose any vet in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Adeje or Granadilla de Abona, pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
