Individual cremation for your pet: what Petplan’s liability policy includes

Petplan has launched a third-party liability policy that includes Golden Flame’s individual cremation service. It costs 105 € a year, taxes included, and for now it is available in the Comunidad de Madrid and in Castilla-La Mancha. Here is what it covers and what it does not.

What the 105 € a year includes

For 105 € a year, taxes included, you take out two things at once: Petplan’s basic third-party liability cover, up to 300.000 € a year with legal and criminal defence included, and the individual cremation service provided by Golden Flame, a crematorium that works only with pets.

Individual cremation means your pet is cremated alone, in a private and supervised process, and that you receive 100% of the ashes in a wooden eco urn, together with the cremation certificate.

How it differs from the cremation the policy already covers

Petplan’s standard health policy reimburses collective cremation. In that kind of cremation the ashes are not returned, because the animal is not cremated on its own.

That is the whole difference: with the individual service you get your pet’s ashes back, and only theirs. It is why it exists as a separate contract rather than as one more cover inside the health policy.

What is included and what is not

Included is collection of your pet at home or at the vet clinic and transfer to the crematorium, with a coordination service available 24 hours. Also the wooden eco urn, the cremation certificate and delivery, which you can arrange at the crematorium, at your clinic, by courier or at your home.

Not included are deaths during the first month of the contract, which works as a waiting period, the service outside the Comunidad de Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha, and dogs of potentially dangerous breeds or trained to attack.

Where it is available

In this first phase the service is provided in the Comunidad de Madrid, both in the capital and in every municipality in the region, and in Castilla-La Mancha.

In Castilla-La Mancha it covers the five provinces: Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara and Toledo. Outside those two regions the individual cremation service is not available.

What happens from the seventh year

From the seventh year of paying the cremation contract you stop paying cremation instalments, even if your pet lives longer, and you keep the cremation cover.

The liability insurance, by contrast, renews every year like any other annual policy. They are two different things living inside the same contract.
