Among Petplan’s documentation there is one document that says nothing about reimbursements or veterinary bills: the one for the GPS tracker service for dogs. It is a service with its own contract, and it is worth knowing what it includes, and how it differs from the health policy, before you need it.
What the GPS tracker service includes
The document covering the GPS Tracker Service for dogs sets out the content of the service, which includes sending a GPS tracker and the geolocation service contract for 12 months.
It is two things in one: the device that is sent out, and the geolocation service attached to it for that twelve-month period. The service document is where that content is set out, and it is the one to read to know exactly what is being taken out.
Why it has a contract of its own
The GPS tracker is not a cover under the health policy but a service with separate documentation. The same is true of other Petplan services, such as individual cremation or the prevention and vaccination plan, which also have their own document within the policy documentation.
That separation is why there are two places to look: the policy conditions for what gets reimbursed, and the service contract for what the service includes and for how long.
What the policy covers if your dog goes missing
This is where the policy does come in. Petplan reimburses the cost of advertisements if your dog is lost, up to a maximum of €600 a year. It is a cover with its own limit, separate from the rest.
If the dog is not lost but stolen with violence, the policy pays out the value of the dog, up to a maximum of €600. Two different situations and two different covers, even though the cap is the same.
Where it sits within the policy
The main cover is still the reimbursement of veterinary costs for illness or accident: 100% of the invoice, up to €3,100 a year, with a co-payment (excess) of €45 per illness and not per visit.
As everywhere else in the policy, pre-existing conditions are not covered, and the waiting periods are 15 days for accidents and 30 days for illnesses. The vet, in any case, is yours to choose: there are no approved vets and no network.
The documents worth locating
The general conditions explain how the insurance works, what it covers and what it does not, and the IPID sums the same thing up in a short document that every insurer must give the customer before taking out a policy.
The GPS tracker service contract is a separate document, as are the vaccination plan and the veterinary video consultation documents. Having it to hand before you need it saves an awkward search at a bad moment.
Frequently asked questions
What does the GPS tracker service include?
Sending a GPS tracker and the geolocation service contract for 12 months.
Is it a cover under the health policy?
No. It is a service with its own document and its own contract, like other Petplan services.
How much does the policy reimburse for advertisements if the dog is lost?
Up to a maximum of €600 a year in advertising costs.
And if the dog is stolen?
The policy pays the value of the dog, up to a maximum of €600, where the theft involves violence.
