Bred in the former Czechoslovakia in the mid-20th century by the geneticist František Horák, it is a deliberate cross between the Scottish Terrier and the Sealyham Terrier. Recognised by the FCI in 1963, it remains a rare breed. It is calmer and less stubborn than most terriers, which makes it an excellent family dog.
