The Styrian Coarse-haired Hound is a medium-sized scenthound from Austria, created in the 1870s by the industrialist Karl Peintinger. It emerged over about two decades by crossing the Hanoverian Hound with the Istrian Wire-haired Hound, aiming for a dog tough enough for Alpine terrain. It was recognised in 1889. Tenacious and hardworking, it is in its element outdoors and active.
