The Poitevin, also called the Chien de Haut-Poitou, is a French scenthound from the province of Poitou. It was created in 1692 by the Marquis de Larye, combining the old Montemboeuf and Chien Ceris hounds with Irish scenthounds and greyhounds, originally to hunt wolves. It is a pack hound par excellence: very sociable with other dogs and extremely enduring on the trail.
