What makes the price vary?

Whether only the ECG is done or the echocardiogram as well, whether a follow-up is needed, and whether the heart is checked together with an abdominal ultrasound, which this hospital charges as a combined price of €120. The cardiology consultation is listed as a separate price from the tests.

How much does Petplan cover?

Petplan Spain reimburses 100% of the invoice up to €3,100 a year, with a €45 co-payment per illness or accident, at the vet of your choice. It does not cover pre-existing conditions or preventive care, and there are waiting periods of 15 days for accidents and 30 days for illness.

The policy pays for the consultations and tests the vet needs to treat a covered illness or accident: the general conditions define veterinary treatment as any examination, consultation, test or diagnostic procedure. It does not pay for tests done to prevent an illness, or for tests you ask for that the vet confirms are not necessary. If the heart problem already existed before you took out the policy, it is a pre-existing condition and is not covered.
