When you take out pet insurance you are signing with someone, and it is worth knowing who. In Petplan’s case there are two names involved, and each plays a different role. It is a question we are asked often, and it has a clear answer.

Two names, two roles

Petplan is the trading name of Petplan Ibérica, S.L. That is the company you deal with when you ask for a quote, take out a policy or write to us.

The policy itself is provided and underwritten by Telefónica Seguros y Reaseguros Compañía Aseguradora, S.A. They are two separate functions within the same product.

Petplan Ibérica, the broker

Petplan Ibérica, S.L. sells these policies as an insurance broker (Correduría de Seguros). It is who looks after you, who sends your quote and who you send your invoices to.

It is also the name that has spent 47 years insuring pets around the world, and that track record is what shapes the cover we offer.

Telefónica Seguros, the insurer

Telefónica Seguros y Reaseguros Compañía Aseguradora, S.A. is the entity that provides and underwrites the health policy you take out.

When you read the General and Particular Conditions you will see that name: it is the one listed as the insurer of the contract.

The registration details

Petplan Ibérica, S.L. is registered in Spain and is entered and authorised with the Dirección General de Seguros y Fondos de Pensiones under the key J-3.103.

Its tax number (CIF) is B-90.057.431. These are the details to check if you want to verify who you are contracting with, and they appear in our documentation.

What this means day to day

In practice, your point of contact is Petplan: that is where you get a quote, where you open a claim from your customer area and where you handle your renewal.

And the contract behind all of that is underwritten by Telefónica Seguros. You can read it in full: the General Conditions and the IPID are published on the site.
