Once you have decided to insure your pet, two practical questions remain that rarely appear on the cover page: how you pay, and what happens if there is more than one animal at home. Neither changes what the policy covers, but both change what leaves your account.
The policy is annual, the payment does not have to be
Petplan insurance runs for a year. That defines the period of cover, not the way you settle it: the health policy can be split into 3 interest-free instalments.
Splitting it does not make the insurance dearer and does not trim the cover. It is the same annual contract spread over three payments, at no added cost for doing it that way.
What you can pay with
You can pay for the policy by credit or debit card, with PayPal, with Bizum, by bank transfer or by direct debit.
That is a wider list than is usual in insurance, and the choice is yours: none of those routes changes the terms or the price of the policy.
10% from the second pet onwards
If you insure more than one animal there is a benefit: from the second pet onwards you get 10% as a gift. It applies to the health policy only.
It is not a discount you have to ask for or negotiate: it is the standard condition for anyone insuring several animals with Petplan.
Which policy the 10% applies to
The detail worth knowing is where it is taken off: the gift is applied to the higher-value policies.
And since each policy is priced on the animal’s individual breed, its age and the cost of veterinary services in your area, among other factors, the pet with the dearer policy may not be the one you expect.
What does not change with how you pay
Cover begins at 00:00 on the day after you take the policy out, when you receive the Particular Conditions, whether you pay in one go or in three instalments.
The underlying figures do not shift either: reimbursement is 100% up to a maximum of 3,100 euros a year, with a co-payment, or excess, of 45 euros per illness and not per visit. And making a claim does not make renewal dearer, because Petplan does not penalise you for claims.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay for the insurance in instalments?
Yes. The health policy can be split into 3 interest-free instalments.
Can I pay with Bizum or PayPal?
Yes. Also by card, bank transfer or direct debit.
How does the 10% for several pets work?
It applies from the second insured pet onwards, on the health policy only, against the higher-value policies.
When does cover start?
At 00:00 on the day after you take the policy out, when you receive the Particular Conditions.
If you are about to insure two animals, get both quotes before buying them separately: the benefit starts with the second, and knowing which policy it lands on tells you in advance what you will pay in total.
