It arose in 19th-century Wales as a working dog, developed by Captain John Edwardes at Sealyham House to hunt otters, badgers and foxes. Its creation involved, among others, the Dandie Dinmont, the Bull Terrier and the West Highland White. Today it is a rare breed.
