Looking after your pet in Madrid

Big green spaces such as Casa de Campo and Madrid Río suit daily dog walks, and the Sierra de Guadarrama is under an hour away for mountain walks. For fenced play, the dog area in Parque Juan Carlos I covers nearly 5,800 m² with nine agility pieces, while Parque Roma in the Retiro district offers about 2,200 m². Further out, the Vía Verde del Tajuña runs 55 km from Arganda del Rey to Ambite; keep your dog on a lead.

In the Madrid region, cats must be microchipped and neutered before six months, unless they are breeding cats of registered breeders. Pets are recorded on RIAC, access to which is managed by the Colegio Oficial de Veterinarios de Madrid. With Petplan pet insurance in Madrid you can use any vet practice in the city, Móstoles, Alcalá de Henares or Getafe: you pay the bill and get 100% of covered costs back, minus a fixed €45 co-pay.
