One of the oldest scent hound breeds in France, bred since the 13th century in the highlands of the centre of the country. French nobles used it to keep wild boar and wolves at bay, but it disappeared after the French Revolution. From 1925, hunters in the Morvan reconstructed it. Rustic and «shaggy» in appearance, it is sociable but independent and of great courage when facing boar.
