A urine test helps detect urinary infections, stones, diabetes and kidney disease, especially in cats and older dogs. It is a simple test and one of the cheapest.

- At a university vet hospital, a urinalysis (dipstick and sediment) costs €25.
- With the urine protein:creatinine ratio (UPC), used to monitor the kidneys, it costs €45.
- Petplan reimburses 100% up to €3,100 a year when the test is part of treating an accident or illness.

How much does Petplan cover?
Petplan Spain reimburses 100% of the invoice up to €3,100 a year, with a €45 co-payment per illness or accident, at the vet of your choice. It does not cover pre-existing conditions or preventive care, and there are waiting periods of 15 days for accidents and 30 days for illness.
The policy includes examinations and diagnostic tests within veterinary treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I collect my cat’s urine myself?
Yes, with special non-absorbent litter. For a culture, vets usually prefer to take it straight from the bladder.
What is the UPC ratio for?
It measures how much protein the kidneys lose in the urine. It helps detect and monitor kidney disease.
