The Billy originated in the Poitou region of western France in the 19th century. It takes its name from the Château de Billy and was developed by Gaston Hublot du Rivault from old, now-extinct French scenthound breeds. It is a pack hound created to hunt hare, roe deer and wild boar, highly valued for its stamina and excellent nose.
