The Kromfohrländer is a relatively young breed, originating in mid-20th-century Germany. It descends from a stray griffon-type dog crossed with a Fox Terrier in the Kromfohr region (Siegen). It was officially recognised in 1955 and, unlike most breeds, was developed from the start as a companion dog, with no hunting or working role.
