Petplan’s optional vaccine plan: what it covers and up to how much

Vaccinations are one of the first things people check when comparing pet insurance: some policies bundle them in and charge you for them inside the premium, others leave them out. At Petplan they are an optional plan, with its own limit and 100% reimbursement. It is worth understanding exactly what it covers before deciding whether you need it.

Why vaccinations sit in a separate plan

The health policy is designed for the unexpected: the veterinary costs that arrive with an illness or an accident. That is why it reimburses consultations, tests, blood work, X-rays, surgery, hospitalisation and the medicines your vet prescribes.

Routine or preventive visits fall outside that cover, as do deworming and neutering. Vaccination belongs to that predictable, scheduled kind of care, which is why Petplan treats it as an optional plan instead of charging every customer for it inside the premium.

What the Health and Vaccines plan reimburses

The plan reimburses 100% of the cost of the vaccines your vet prescribes, up to a maximum of 90 euros a year. That limit also covers the Leishmaniasis vaccine, which forms part of the usual schedule across much of Spain.

It is an optional plan added to the health policy and renewed each year alongside it, so the limit becomes available again in every period. If you do not take it out, vaccination stays outside your cover.

When it makes sense to add it

Petplan does not include it compulsorily, and that is the difference worth checking when you compare. If your vet already includes vaccinations in their own prevention plan, you do not need to pay for them a second time through the insurance.

If you do not have that arrangement with your practice, 100% reimbursement up to 90 euros a year covers the annual vaccination schedule. The decision depends mostly on what you are already paying elsewhere.

What the health policy covers on its own

It helps not to confuse the two. The health policy reimburses 100% of veterinary costs from illness or accident up to a maximum of 3,100 euros a year, with a co-payment (excess) of 45 euros per illness rather than per visit.

That includes consultations, diagnostic procedures, surgery and nursing, hospitalisation and prescribed medicines. The vaccination plan replaces none of it: it is added for a cost the health policy does not contemplate.

How the reimbursement is paid

It works exactly as the rest of the policy does: you pay your vet, you send us the invoice and the report, and we pay the amount into your bank account by transfer.

Here too you choose the practice. Petplan does not work with an approved vet network, so you can have your pet vaccinated wherever you already take them.
