The 3 differences you will notice in your pocket

01

A fixed excess, not a percentage

With Petplan you pay €45 per illness or accident, even if you go back to the vet several times. With Musky you pay 20% of every bill: the bigger the bill, the more you pay.

02

Claiming doesn't push up your price

Petplan does not raise your renewal price because you have used the policy. Musky's general conditions state that the renewal premium takes your claims history into account.

03

More time and more protection

12 months to report a claim (Musky: 3), third-party liability up to €300,000 (Musky: €150,000) and boarding for your pet if you are taken into hospital.

What happens in the most common situations

A broken leg

Real case, €2,380 bill: with Petplan you pay €45; with Musky, €476.

Torn cruciate ligament

If your dog was over 6 months old when you took out the policy, Musky won't cover it for 6 months. With Petplan, you're covered after 30 days.

Long-term treatment

With an ongoing condition you go back to the vet many times. With Petplan, one excess per condition; with Musky, 20% of every visit.

You are taken into hospital

Petplan covers boarding for your pet while you are in hospital. Musky doesn't.

When might Musky suit you?

So you can decide with all the facts:

  • If you want shorter waiting periods for accidents: 5 days instead of 15.
  • If you'd like vaccine cover as an option, choose Petplan. If you don't mind the price compulsorily including both vaccines and the annual check-up, even if your vet's own plan already covers them, choose Musky.
  • If you only expect small bills: below €225, 20% is less than €45.

If what worries you is big bills, long illnesses or your price going up after a claim, Petplan protects you better.
