What happens in the most common situations

A broken leg

Real case, €2,380 bill: with Petplan you pay €45; with Caser you pay the bill, with a discount of up to 20% at CASERVET clinics.

An emergency on a Sunday

Caser: at most €100 a year, and only if you call first and get authorisation. Petplan: 100% minus €45.

An illness that needs treatment

Caser: the consultation is free at CASERVET; tests and treatment are yours to pay. Petplan covers them up to €3,100 a year.

Your usual vet

Caser's plan only works at CASERVET clinics. With Petplan you keep your vet and still get 100% back.

When might Caser suit you?

So you can decide with all the facts:

  • If a CASERVET clinic is near you and you mainly want preventive care: vaccines, deworming, yearly tests and check-ups.
  • If you want a higher third-party liability limit (up to €350,000) and your home insurance does not include it.

If you want your vet bills actually paid when your pet is ill or injured, at any vet and with up to €3,100 a year, Petplan is real pet health insurance.

Thermometer for your vet

What happens to your usual vet if you choose Caser?

There are more than 7,000 vet clinics in Spain. Some insurers only work with a few hundred of them. Caser only provides care at CASERVET clinics; anywhere else it only pays back authorised emergencies, up to €100 a year.

  • Your vet loses the client Caser

Policies with a vet network and set prices: they pay nothing back at your usual clinic, so the client ends up at their network clinics.

  • Your vet will almost certainly lose the client

At their partner clinics the client pays nothing; at the usual clinic they pay upfront and get 80% back. They will go where they do not have to pay.

  • Your vet will lose the client sooner or later

They pay 80% at any clinic but 100% only at their own. With the first expensive bill, the client switches.

  • Your vet keeps the client Petplan

Reimbursement at any vet. The client stays with their usual vet, and the insurance helps the clinic keep them.

Petplan classification based on how each insurer reimburses vet bills for illness outside its own clinic network.

Frequently asked questions

Does Caser MIMAscota pay back my vet bills?

No. Its own product information document (IPID) describes it as a third-party liability policy. On the Premium Health Plan, vet care is only provided at CASERVET clinics: some preventive care is free and you pay for the rest, with a discount. Its conditions say it will not reimburse any amount, except emergencies, up to €100 per pet per year. Petplan reimburses 100% of the bill with a fixed €45 excess, up to €3,100 a year.

How much does each policy cost?

Caser MIMAscota Premium Health Plan costs €430.11 a year, according to its quote of 17 October 2026, with third-party liability of up to €350,000 included. Petplan costs €279 a year for a Yorkshire Terrier under 1 year old (15 October 2026). Petplan is cheaper and also pays back 100% of the bill.

How much would I pay for a broken leg with each insurer?

On a real €2,380 bill, you pay a €45 excess with Petplan. With Caser, at your own vet you pay the bill: at most, if it is an emergency authorised by phone, it pays back €100 a year. At a CASERVET clinic you pay its rates with a discount of up to 20%: with the prices on this bill, more than €1,900.

What does the Premium Health Plan include for free?

Preventive care: consultations and check-ups, life-threatening emergency consultations, vaccines, internal deworming, a yearly urine and blood test, a yearly abdominal ultrasound and a pet passport, among others, always at CASERVET clinics. Tests for an illness, surgery and hospital stays are paid by you, with a discount.

When does Caser pay back an emergency?

Up to €100 per pet per year, only in the cases set by Caservet: when there is no CASERVET clinic in your region or, if there is one, when you need an emergency centre outside its opening hours. You must always call the emergency line first and get authorisation; otherwise there is no refund.

Can I keep my own vet?

With Caser, the Premium plan only works at CASERVET clinics. Anywhere else, it only pays back authorised emergencies, up to €100 a year. With Petplan you can go to any vet.

Do I have to pay for third-party liability?

With Caser, yes: it is the core cover of all its plans, up to €350,000, even though many home insurance policies already include it. With Petplan it is optional: +€25 a year, up to €300,000, only if you need it.

Am I covered when I travel with my dog?
