The 3 differences you will notice in your pocket

01

Insurance that pays, not a price list

Petplan pays back 100% of every bill minus €45. Adeslas never reimburses: it only treats your pet in its network, and you pay an excess for tests, operations and hospital stays.

02

The small print on those prices

Adeslas' prices are shown without VAT, exclude medication, plates and other material, anything not on its list is charged at the clinic's private rate, and emergencies carry a 25% surcharge.

03

Any vet, and time to claim

With Petplan you keep your own vet and have 12 months to report a claim. With Adeslas nothing is covered outside its network, and you have 7 days to report a claim.

What happens in the most common situations

A broken leg

Real case, €2,380 bill: with Petplan you pay €45; with Adeslas you pay it all at your own vet, or more than €1,160 in its network.

An emergency on a Sunday

Adeslas: only if you call first and go where they send you, with 25% extra on what is done as an emergency. Petplan: 100% minus €45.

An illness that needs treatment

Adeslas: the consultation is free; tests carry an excess and medication is yours to pay. Petplan covers them up to €3,100 a year.

Your usual vet

Adeslas covers nothing outside its network. With Petplan you keep your vet and still get 100% back.

When might Adeslas suit you?

So you can decide with all the facts:

  • If one of its network clinics is near you and you mainly want free booked consultations and low-cost vaccines.
  • If your dog or cat is between 7 and 9 years old: Adeslas accepts new pets on the Completa plan up to 9 years old.
  • If you need third-party liability and your home insurance does not include it.

If you want your vet bills actually paid, at any vet and with up to €3,100 a year, Petplan is real pet health insurance.

Thermometer for your vet

What happens to your usual vet if you choose Adeslas?

There are more than 7,000 vet clinics in Spain. Some insurers only work with a few hundred of them. Adeslas only provides vet care at its network of 594 clinics and pays nothing back anywhere else.

  • Your vet loses the client Adeslas

Policies with a vet network and set prices: they pay nothing back at your usual clinic, so the client ends up at their network clinics.

  • Your vet will almost certainly lose the client

At their partner clinics the client pays nothing; at the usual clinic they pay upfront and get 80% back. They will go where they do not have to pay.

  • Your vet will lose the client sooner or later

They pay 80% at any clinic but 100% only at their own. With the first expensive bill, the client switches.

  • Your vet keeps the client Petplan

Reimbursement at any vet. The client stays with their usual vet, and the insurance helps the clinic keep them.

Petplan classification based on how each insurer reimburses vet bills for illness outside its own clinic network.

Frequently asked questions

Does Adeslas pay back my vet bills?

No. Its General Conditions say it will not pay cash benefits or reimburse any amount. Vet care is only provided at the clinics in its network (Cuadro Veterinario), and you pay an excess for each service according to its price list. Petplan reimburses 100% of the bill with a fixed €45 excess, up to €3,100 a year.

How much does each policy cost?

Adeslas pet insurance on its Completa plan costs €24.74 a month (€296.88 a year), a single price for any breed, checked on 17 October 2026. Petplan costs €279 a year for a Yorkshire Terrier under 1 year old (15 October 2026). Petplan is cheaper and also pays back 100% of the bill.

How much would I pay for a broken leg with each insurer?

On a real €2,380 bill, you pay a €45 excess with Petplan. With Adeslas, at your own vet you pay the full €2,380. In its network it is not free either: fracture surgery with plates has a €380 excess and X-rays €45, both without VAT, and the plate and medication are not covered. With the prices on this bill, you would pay more than €1,160.

What is the Adeslas vet network?

Its network of 594 partner clinics in Spain. On the Completa plan, booked consultations, check-ups and life-threatening emergencies authorised by phone are free; tests, operations and hospital stays carry an excess that you pay.

Do Adeslas' prices include VAT and medication?

No. Its 2026 price list shows prices without VAT and does not include fluids, medication, prostheses, orthoses, pins, meshes, plates or wires. Anything not on its price list is charged at the clinic's private rate.

What happens in an emergency?

With Adeslas you must call its emergency line first: if you go to an emergency clinic without that step, it is not covered and you pay the whole bill. Services arising from an emergency also carry a 25% surcharge. With Petplan you go to the nearest emergency clinic and we pay back 100% minus €45.

Can I keep my own vet?

Not with Adeslas: it excludes care provided at clinics outside its network. With Petplan you can go to any vet.

Does Adeslas cover congenital conditions?

No. It excludes hidden defects and congenital defects, diseases or malformations. Petplan covers breed-related conditions.

Do I have to pay for third-party liability?

With Adeslas, yes: it is built into the price, up to €200,000, even though many home insurance policies already include it. With Petplan it is optional: +€25 a year, up to €300,000, only if you need it.

Am I covered when I travel with my dog?

Adeslas' vet cover only applies in Spain. Petplan covers you in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

How long do I have to report a claim?

12 months with Petplan and 7 days with Adeslas.

Can I insure my rabbit?

With Petplan, yes: we insure dogs, cats and rabbits. Adeslas only insures dogs and cats.

Can I deal with Petplan in English?
