Breed origins

The Cocker Spaniels were recognized as separate races of the Field and the Springer Spaniel shortly after the formation of the Kennel Club in 1873. He was born as the “cocking spaniel” that derives from “flushing woodcock”. As in different breeds of hunting dogs, there are currently differences between the dogs used for work and those of show: the show cocker is a stronger and heavier version than his work colleague.
